Stealing Metals: The Latest Craze

It has been all over the news lately, but I didn’t really think it would affect me. You see where thieves are stealing just about anything made from metal, and then selling it to scrap yards. Often times it is the copper piping like in air conditioners or plumbing, but I have even heard of some bold thieves stealing manhole covers. Boy that would be a shock if you hit an open manhole while on a motorcycle!

It all kind of hit home a few nights ago though. I own an exterminating company and have two work trucks that I park in a fenced area behind our shop. Just basic work pickups with truck tool boxes and ladder racks. They don’t have any fancy pickup truck accessories, so I don’t worry about them too much. I guess I should have been worried about the aluminum ladders though! Apparently aluminum is one of the metals which are high on the list for these metal thieves. They completely cleaned me out of the aluminum ladders which had been locked to the truck racks, and didn’t touch anything else. Do you know how much a new ladder costs? Let me tell you about it: they must think these things are made of gold, because it was a small fortune to replace my ladders.
